Email tracker for Gmail — Chrome extension
Looking for a gmail email tracker or a mail tracker for Gmail that does not demand an account? SentCue Email Tracking is an email tracking Chrome extension for Gmail on the web — the same job people mean by “mail track for Gmail” or “gmail tracker,” without a sales suite. Recipients do not install anything. You pin the extension, accept the disclosure, turn activity detection on, and send as usual.
The problem this solves
When you send a proposal, a quote, or a careful follow-up, “did this land?” is a practical question. Gmail’s native read receipts are limited (Workspace admins, recipient confirmation). Most Chrome trackers answer with a pixel and a cloud dashboard. SentCue answers in the Sent list: a circle on that row, with history and reminders on this browser — an email tracking extension for Gmail without a promotional footer.
Who it is for
People who already live in Gmail on the web: freelancers sending proposals, job seekers, small operators doing one-thread follow-ups. If you need campaigns, Outlook, or mobile Gmail apps, pick a suite. If you want a lightweight Gmail tracker in Chrome, pin SentCue and keep detection Off until a specific send deserves a cue.
How the pixel works in Gmail
If tracking is On for a send, the extension may insert a tiny image whose URL contains a random token (for example on pixel.sentcue.com). When a mail client, Google Image Proxy, or a scanner requests that image after the Undo window, SentCue can record that the token was requested and show a signal.
A blue circle means that an activity signal was detected. It does not guarantee that the recipient read the message. Image proxies, security scanners, caching, disabled images, and opening your own Sent copy can all produce or hide a signal. Scheduled Send is not supported in this version.
1. Pin the Chrome extension
After install from the Chrome Web Store, Chrome hides the icon behind the puzzle. Pin Email Tracking, then open Gmail on the web. Step-by-step screenshots: Get started. Until the icon is pinned, it is easy to miss Global Off and per-message Track this message.
2. Turn tracking on
Read the notice, then turn activity detection On in the popup. Until you do, no tracking image is added. You can still turn tracking off for one message in compose. Global Off always wins: if detection is off in the popup, compose cannot add a pixel.
3. Read the status in Sent
The email tracking extension shows a circle on the tracked outgoing message: orange Just sent during the Undo window, gray Waiting, or blue Activity detected. The circle belongs to one Sent row. Replies, forwards, and duplicate subjects can leave that row unmarked while Recent and History still show the event. See Support if the circle is missing.
Limitations you should expect
- Web Gmail in Chrome only — not iOS/Android Gmail apps.
- No lists, sequences, or CRM sync.
- A blocked image is silence, not proof of ignore.
- You can turn tracking off globally or for one send at any time.
Google Image Proxy and false positives
Gmail often fetches remote images through Google’s proxy. That is good for recipients and noisy for senders: a proxy fetch is not the same as a person lingering on the paragraph you wrote. SentCue filters some known automated loads; it cannot see through every scanner or cache. Treat a first signal as “the image was requested,” then use your judgment.
How to turn tracking off
Global Off in the toolbar popup stops new pixels on later sends. Per-message Off in compose skips that one email. Support documents both. If you are done with the product, Delete tracking data for this install, then remove the extension.
When not to use it
Do not use SentCue for bulk outreach, purchased lists, or anything that needs a campaign dashboard. If you need a legal read receipt, use Workspace request receipts where your admin allows them — an activity signal is not that document. If you need the same history on two computers, read local-first vs cloud before you install expecting sync.
